APPLE DRESS

Today I've been celebrating my goddaughter's fifth birthday. I brought her a Håkan Hällström cd since she loves to dance and sing along to songs in Swedish.

It was a bit funny to notice how everything else she got was in pink. I'm not sure I want to take part in the whole gender converstaion about how we are formed as boys and girls at already an early age and how girls shouldn't be given pink things and boys light blue. I tried to think of myself at that age and weather it really is that way that the female mind somehow find pink more aesthetic than boys or weather we are just made to think that.

Well, I guess no one will ever know that for sure. Anyway, I just read that H&M just has made a baby/kids collection that is totally genderless - no colours or symbols that would indicate weather the clothing is made for a little boy or a little girl. It is said to be the first of its kind but I'm not really buying that. I had one-coloured rompers in brown or green as a kid, patterned with lions and apples and all kinds of stuff that kids just like in general. In honour of that I was wearing my apple-patterned dress today (and yes, it is the same model as the one a few posts below. I had to get both since I couldn't decide which one I liked better :)

Dress - RL
Shoes - H&M

You're not only having one apple a day, but a few hundreds. That's so smart, dear. But not only smart, also absolutely lovely and delicious looking. Where did you buy the dress?

you look much better in that dress, than I did it when I tried it on.

Am not buying that H&M thing either. Which kid in the 70s/early 80s didN'T have those "genderless" brown/green/dark yellow etc stuff..? I for sure did, as I also did have some pink stuff... My big sister got blue when I got pink, but nowadays she has lots of pink and she says it's because she didn't have any as a child! So there you go. My nieces (between 2 months and one year old) are getting lots of Hello Kitty-stuff...
Well, the gender conversation is kind of boring anyways I think. As everybody are different.

I adore your dress--so sweet and the red shoes are gorgeous. Kids clothes are so darling--whether gendered or not!

I've fallen into a habit of buying my goddaughter pink stuff for her b-day and such. Mainly because I like pink things so much :) It's fun buying them. She's turning 10 (can't believe I have a goddaughter who's that old...) this year and I guess I should start giving her more mature gifts.

Lovely outfit, by the way :)

I love your style so much! I only wish I was confident enough to wear girly, bright-colored dresses *--*

You remind me of Wanda Woodward from Cry-Baby, in a good way, of course!

I'm happy I found your blog.

The "genderless" thing was huge in the 1970s. Us kids all dressed the same; brown and mustard terry and Marimekko on everyone :). But nowadays it's really quite hard to find anything genderless for kids. I really tried to get something like that for my nieces but sewing and thrifting turned out to be the best options. Now I don't have to try so hard anymore because the younger one can wear hand me downs from the older one, who in turn will not wear anything but pink any longer :P.

No, it most certainly isn't biological or anything. In fact only about 100 years ago pink was recommended for little boys!

Oh well. You look great in that dress :)

Thanks for the comments you all!

Ina : yes I'm not that keen on participating any further in gender converstions, I just find it a bit amusing with the pink. It's worh a thought any now and then

Anna: And I can't believe my goddaugher just turned five either... I've also bought her some pink and lilac stuff before since I also find it cute so I don't think there is anything wrong with that really

Theremina: Thank you for the link, I hadn't read the article before!

Sugared: well I'm happy you found it too. And I think Cry Baby's Wanda is gorgeus so thanks :D

Vasiliisa: Yup one can really thrift lovely clothes for kids / babies. And I actually yhink my mother has saved some of my and my sisters' stuff that I will use if the day ever comes. Baby clothes are used for such a short time only they are definietily worth passing on!
