OH JUST FCK IT!

Seems that I around autumn get this urge to rationalize my wardrobe, get a few pieces that goes with everything and at any place while I want to get rid of all that that has no absolute meaning or serve any specific purpose in my wardrobe. (Yeah, good luck). Sitting here at work writing down what I would need and what needs to go or be replaced in smarter way (read: how can I justify getting these certain things) on small post-it's here in between the ships, while also browsing those dangerous sites I keep on visiting although I should know better it struck me: who am I kidding?
I do this every year.
My wardrobe is still not that much more functional than it was last year and will never be perfect (although it is very nice).

I mean how could I possibly claim that the Trashy Diva leopard mid season jacket I just ordered serves any important function to me living in a country when such jackets can be worn about four months a year divided in two month-periods? When I already have as many mid-season jackets as there are weeks per mid season (sort of)? That I had any important reason to buy it? Time to admit: I may get annoyed on the fact that it is considered normal to just buy buy and buy for the fun of it,to get something new every month (or week!), regardless weather it is vintage or brand new (I'm not thinking in terms of ecology or such, but in material). But I do it myself. A lot. Hehe.

So cut the crap, I need a pinafore skirt.

In green I think; the only question is: pencil or A-line?
Vivien of Holloway or Nudeedudee?

I vote for pencil skirt, since you're asking :)

Pencil!

And I think "what we need" is overrated. Why not have "what we love", "what we enjoy" and "what brings pleasure"?

en av varje :D revamp vintage har en hängselkjol som är underbar, använder min väldigt ofta. kan iofs vara skönare med en pencil vintertid.

haha, min garderob kommer aldrig heller att bli perfekt

Well if I had a great figure like yourself I'd opt for the pencil skirt, but why don't you get both? A lady can't have too many skirts! -iliana ;D

Pencil is much more oh la la, and would look great with your curves! But A-line is also good and you can wear it anyday, even the days you feel a bit ..puffy (you know, those days...).

I'd also go for the pencil one, at least for winter. The green one is lovely too but maybe a bit more summery?

Btw, if you ever figure out why some of us can't stick to practical wardrobes, let me know. Trying to be practical, I've recently made a couple of high waisted trousers, but my last project was a corset?! In black fake leather? How practical is that for everyday wear...Sigh. It's hopeless ;)

we are all in the same boat. the boat needs to be bigger. fashion yacht where we have plenty of cash to buy whatever whenever. let's all just allow more money not pretending to want less. i am there with you! i just bought a heavy fucking coat that realistically i will never be able to wear in this oven i call home...

I'd totally go for a VoH pencil skirt, but they don't make them for slightly bigger girls like myself. It's a shame 'cause I'd totally rock it.

So pencil is also my suggestion :)

I would go for the A-line pinafore. It seems to be more classic and universally flattering.

I agree with WendyB about "what I need" is overrated. I am starting to realize that we have to surround ourselves with things we love and and things that bring pleasure. I like to get functional things but I must love them too. And sometimes I go for something I might never use or use only once just because I love it and know I might never find it again!

Wendy B & Black Opal : I agree too, kind of, but my wardrobe is getting full of that love and our bedroom is fillde with clothes that don't fit in. All mine may I add, Eddis few shirts are not the problem :D'

Iliana & Betty : OH no don't tempt me!

Fiona : yup, the puffy days is the reason Iäm not sure which one!

Noora : Oh they don't? Sad. But some VoH have quite a wide scale of sizing don't they? Nudeedudee is good of course since you can order by your own measurement.

I actually like the A-line skirt. I wrote a similar article last week, bemoaning the amount of stuff in our life and wishing we could all just be happy with two pairs of shoes (provided they were awesome, of course). And I agree, it's the buying, not whether it's new or vintage, that is the issue.

Oh sweeeeeet you got the Trashy Diva coat!!! I can't to see you in it!
I say go with the A-Line one. I can't put my finger on it but I like it much better than the pencil.

Oh I say a line. I see the pencil skirts with straps more and more now, they are an easy find, but the a line is harder to find, much more youthful flirty, and less "office" looking. Not that thats a bad thing, but personally I think the a line suits your bright young personality better. Plus it would be cute with tights and boots in the winter, and with socks and heels in the spring and summer :) The pencil version is more a fall winter style.

Both. The VoH is on my list, too. This year I'm gonna get it, Christmas present to self or some other excuse.

I like the A line in green best. And you deserve a treat... I buy stuff and create a reason as to why I should have a treat... this week I woke up at 4am every morning to start work at
5am... which subsequently means I deserve a new pair of shoes. (the fact I do theat every day of the working week is irrelavant!)

Oh the green a-line skirt would look gorgeous on you! And I know you are not trying to rationalize anymore but you know, something like this could be worn in many seasons, with or without layers :P

I'd vote for pencil. A-line pinafore skirts somehow remind me of waitresses' outfits. (Not necessarily a bad thing, of course.)

Last year I started a wardrobe project. I listed how many items I was allowed to have i.e pencil skirts and if I bought a new one, one old had to go...I managed to stick with it for a week maybe? It's just hopeless. Again I'm with a "wardrobe full with nothing to wear".
I would go with the pencil one. Agreeing with comments above, it's more "wintery".

Hey! I'm the girl in the picture on the right...And I say go for A-line!!! Kim of Nudeedudee makes the most amazing items, seriously. If you did want a custom item, she can work her magic and will listen to all your requirements and do whatever she can.
Plus, she is THE nicest lady to work with, EVER! :)

I prefer the A-line - and that minty colour would just look great on you!

Karin said...

What is this "or" word you're throwing around? ;)

Seriously, you'd look great in both skirts. I really like the look of the mint green a-line though.

I have the Nudee Dudee pinafore and I love it! Very well made. I would get it lined though, so that it can be worn in the colder months as well. I have to wear a slip with mine.
