I NEVER SAID I WOULDN'T AND SO I DID IT

It took me nine months but now it's mine!

The Trashy Diva Courtney coat - it's perfect. I should've just ordered it right away as it was bound to happen sooner or later, the way it usually goes with things like this...

It's very over the top, which is good, because that's the way (a-ha a-ha) I like it. (Every now and then at least.)

But, since Helsinki is not exactly New Orleans, at least climate wise (except for a few incredible months last summer), so this may not be the perfect jacket for the season. However, the very pretty collar is easily folded up and it actually works very well, both against wind and how it appears. And a pair of long gloves also come in handy to cover the fourth of an arm that otherwise would be bare.

And yes, then I had this little poll in my sidebar for a month, asking what you like to see on this blog. Not that the result would or will change the way I blog, as I still will post about what I like and the way I have the time for it. But it's also nice to find out what the rest of the world thinks. And almost all of you clicked outfits. Oh you, my readers. Outfit posts are the ones I find the hardest to find substance for and the ones that take the longest time to make (since I often tend to be in a hurry, or, ahum, a little late). But well, wouldn't want to disappoint you: here's what I wore underneath today; something a little less edgy than the coat.

Ps. If you're thinking of ordering the coat read the description on the Trashy Diva site; it runs a bit small around the ribs like they say so order a size up! Mine fits me well with just a plain shirt or tee underneath, but I had to move the buttons a couple of centimetres to be able to fit a knit there too!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that coat! I've been drooling over it for as long as it's been on their site. One day it will be mine.

I feel like you should be on the cover of an issue of Vogue from the '50s.

Jen said...

Can I ask what size you got? I'm thinking about getting one, and I'm about a size bigger than you.

Wow! Loving this on you! I just bought the same coat in the Mid-Century Kelly green print, and I'm in love with it. The fit is just perfect and so flattering. You're right though - it's definitely not a coat for the faint-hearted, with the huge voluminous skirt and the loud print.

I'm interested to know how the colour of the leopard print compares to the image on the TD website - it looks wonderful on you here, but the picture on the site makes the colour look a bit orange? I hope it's more like the colour in your pics because it looks gorgeous on you and I think now I might get the pencil skirt and/or jacket!

Thank you all :)

Jen : I have TD dresses in both 6 and 8; this jacket is size 8. A 10 might have fit thicker cardigans better but would have been a bit too big for me though. but like I said, I moved the buttons a bit on this one :)

Lucinda Jane : I had a hard time choosing between prints but then I came to the conclusion the leopard was more me.

Lacey : congrats to Lola :)

Voi luoja että olet kaunis!! ..ja takki, aivan mahtava!

päivi said...

Fabulous!

But I always thought it's a dress (I've been drooling after the green print one for some time), after all they advertize it as a coat dress. So the material is so thick that it really is a coat? Would you wear it only as a dress with nothing under it?

love the coat on you - for me it take it would be a little too much but suits you perfect!
on the outfitspost - I konw they are the most demanding and moreover lots of times make me feel too narcistic - but I notice on my blog that people prefer them, cause I always get the most comments on outfitpost, personal stuff isn't that loved!

lucindajane said...

päivi, I was surprised at how heavy the fabric is - I thought it would be very lightweight, but it is a lovely quality fabric that is fairly thick for a stretch cotton. So for me it would be something I wouldn't really wear as a dress.

Unknown said...

lovely indeed. i wish it came in black with this pattern, inside. Im not so bold. :p but might have a alley cat inside.

Unknown said...

Oh god you look beautiful! It suits you perfectly:)
Does it come in grey?
I´m looking for a grey coat with a similar design as the one your wearing.
Anyway your coat does look lovely on you*

The Freelancer's FashionBlog said...

Kiitos, thank you :)

Päivi & Lucindajane : yes the cotton is indeed opretty heavy, like the one on a regular trench, almost. And it it also lined. Perhaps one could use it as a dress in winter, but for me it is surely more of a coat!

Johanna : but the mid century green print is less bold; black with a green pattern. Also very pretty!

Jenny : No, only in black-green and leo. But check out the black print, I think itäs also very very pretty!

Agreeing with all 50 comments above. You looks simply stunning in this coat. I sure heads are turning on the street when you wear it!

Maja said...

it is beautiful.. I'm lost for words!
How thick is the material? is it thin enough to be used as a dress?

The Freelancer's FashionBlog said...

mrs Munster : thanks, and indeed, I have gotten a lot of (nice) comments from random people about the coat !

Maja : I wouldn't use it as a dress as the fabric is rather "coaty"; for me it's a coat as it is lined and the fabric's a bit stiff. But it is not anyhow super thick, so perhaps one could use it in winter as a dress too, if it was really cold.

Maja said...

thank you for the answer...

omg, this leopard coat is the most amazing leopard thing i've ever seen. (I've seen and owned a lot of leopard patterned items in my life!)
it really looks perfect with the simple outfit underneath!

Amazing!
You're so feminine!

I was trying to so hard to not buy this in black, leopard, and mid-century and now you've absolutely ruined that for me *cries*

But at least I'll look fabulous because honey you do!

Magenta Baribeau said...

Out of curiosity, what's the weather like in Helsinki? I live in Montreal, Canada and i WANT this coat... but i'm afraid i won't be able to wear it during our -20 winters and only in the spring or fall when it's close to 5... Thoughts?

The Freelancer's FashionBlog said...

Magenta : It's a May to September coat, I'd say best around +10 to 15... preferably choose a bigger size so you can layer underneath and it will work fine in +5 too. I did wear it in November still, when it was just below zero, but since the sleeves are only 3/4 and the material is cotton (two layers though) it will not really keep you warm. I think I will wear mine on cool summerdays and evenings too! It's a great coat so go for it :)
