Sometimes I visit blogs where the person is presented in a so unbearably hip way I wonder how they manage to actually fucking breathe. (And I think "Oh Come On" but perhaps that's just because I can be a real asshole sometimes.) And I see others - mostly young and waiting for things to happen I guess - heedlessly swoon over certain blogs or persons on the internet. It is true some persons lives are more interesting and some lives more fabulous, but one thing about blogging is that you very much get to -and should- choose which side or which things you do show. Some choose to blog about certain things, some about other, some a little about everything. Some do it more some do it less personal. Of course one reason why I read and browse blogs is exactly for those pretty and inspirational pictures and details! And often also for laughs and eye rolling and quite much for that little peak in to someone's elses life, that's different from mine. Or perhaps even similar.
But what everyone should remember is that everybody out there does go to the toilet and gather up unwashed dishes at some point, nobody wakes up every day with a sexy bed hair fluff nor lives a life full of just rosy stuff, everyone has their issues although blogged images may tell a different story. (For example our home does of course not always look as sleek as in the pictures I post, it is most often messy. Sometimes it's a charming mess, mostly just terrible. And we all know what I look like at work :)
I'm not making a bigger than life point here, only saying that everyone should take it with a little hint of salt, and no one, no matter how pretentious one may be, should ever take oneself too seriously.
Well, you all go on and have a nice night now!
(I will enjoy my evening with a glass of red and some Puccini, yes. But by a messy table and with oh so un-attended hair.)

A-freakin-men, sister!
Asiaa!
This is a big reason why I love your blog. I like it when bloggers share more than just the pretty fluffy shiny stuff because it makes them seem like more complex people and that's just more interesting.
One of your best posts. xoxo
you're not only pretty but also a very wise lady at a very young age !
I like you !
So true! It's fun to ooh and ahh over pretty things, but I find now and again you need to step back and remember not everyone's life is perfect and polished, nary a stray hair or chipped nail polish, clean as a whistle house, and not so much as a spec of pet hair. That's why it's fun to me when people open up and share the realities that hide on the other side of the camera, too--literally the other side, sometimes, because if they are at all like me, that's where most of their crap not on camera is shoved when taking photos. ;)
I totally remember that commercial! Hilarious.
Thanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
This is an important truth that I forget to remember, and is exactly what I needed to read today :] xx
Thanks for this great post. Sometimes I like seeing the glossy photos but it's always nice to be reminded that we're all just human. In fact, I just posted something vaguely along the same lines here: http://curlyfrizz.blogspot.com/2011/08/being-smug.html
I hope you don't mind me sharing.
Love your blog!
It sounds as if you've been hounded by a gaggle of paparazzi. :)
Totes agree with this post. No one is perfect; although the media portrays celebrities that way. Check out bgprfashion.blogspot.com for fashion updates :)
I read an article about what you're speaking about - about how some groups of stay-at-home moms paint their lives as so rosy and fabulous on their blogging canvas. The first thought is jealousy, until you realize everyone as a blogger, does censor to some degree. Just like how we don't tell our friends every little terrible thing that happens to us - sometimes you just have to keep it private.
With the internet changing how we share information, it's very important to show yourself as sensible and keep that information accessible... because this image will be cached and viewed for years to come.
Nice post, I'm glad great minds think alike ;)
I agreed! :) I blog just for fun and to myself. Im happy if some other want to read it too.
Have a happy day!
I couldn't agree with you more!
...And that is why I love your blog: there is a real person behind it. I have been reading it since you had less or around a thousand readers. There is a real person who is interesting, smart and gorgeous. I have learned from you so much, especially how to dress my best as often as I can. You give a "permission" so to speak to be glamorous and not so when time isn't right for it. And it's ok -- because life itself can not be the same all the time. All we can do is just be our best with what we have.
VERY Well Played Lady!!
That is so true what you say! I usually read The Sartorialist, or not exactly read it, but I look at the pictures. And sometimes I get really really annoyed with all the labels and Prada shoes and pictures of Anna della Russo, whose got like millions to spend, and I start to think "How frikking shallow is this world"? And my cousin's got a interior blog and writes constantly " I just HAD to buy this" and then a picture of a new painting or coffee cup.
The thing is that the blogging world is really really shallow and self-centered. Someone who is not familiar with the concepts of blogging thinks your blog is really shallow, "Some woman showing her wardrobe" :D But that's the way it is! Its like all the fashion magazine as well, If I don't want to take part of this objectyfying of woman I should not read Elle or your blog either, but sometimes it is really really nice to just look at beautiful pictures and get great baking tips.
HAve a great weekend!
Thank you - I completely agree. A reality check is important every once in a while.
So true. Although on the flip side there seem to be abundant blogs dissing various fashion / hipster blogs, and some of them are just plain vicious. It would really put me off posting personal photos and stuff. Do you ever have to deal with nasty feedback? For the record, I think you are pretty good at keeping it real!
Did you ever watch the satire of hipster life called Portlandia? Very funny indeed, and pokes fun at the streetstyle / vintage lifestyle trends without being mean about it.

Well said. Life is indeed messy. I sometimes worry the young gals will have such unrealistically high expectations of adulthood after being raised on a steady diet of rosy blogs.
