TO RASPBERRY FIELDS FOREVER!

If you still haven't decided what to do today, or if you have -which most likely then includes the restaurant day - then pop by our Raspberry Fields for some shopping and sweets right now! Or, soon. We are throwing an open house day at our studio with a burlesque flea market again, but this time as part of Ravintolapäivä (Restaurant Day) too!

I've made some raw raspberry pastries. There will be other raspberry-themed delights too; raw fudge, raspberry cupcakes and raspberry smoothies, and more. Bring cash and coins!

We'll also have some handmade burlesqye-y stuff. The other teams of Raspberry Fields are there as well, so there will be something if your into belly dance as well, for example.

As well as clothes and other items. I'm selling some wigs and a few items I've cleaned out of my closet, some Tara Starlet, some vintage and somethien out of my blast from the past bag. For those who know, we're talking Dekadez anno 1997 :D

We're att Vattuniemenkatu/Hallonnäsgatan 15 and open from 12-15.

Ps. If you are going to move around a bit more during the day you should so pop by the Restaurant Day stop at Hagalunds Gård, the old Tapiola mansion. It's such a beautiful old set of houses hidden in the technology village 10min away from the city centre with bus.

Ps2. Is there a pop-up restaurant near you? Check.

RISING STORM

I was sent a gift set from Liisa, an aspiring Finnish accessory designer and -maker. She creates jewelry out of recycled rubber under the label Nouseva Myrsky, which would translate Rising Storm. Nowadays I quite seldom end up wearing bold and chunky pieces but for some occasions or togehter with certain outfits they go well also for me!

This necklace is part of the 'Decaying Birch'-series.
(You saw it on me last week when we went to the birthday party.)

Last but not east, as a reader of my blog you get 20%off any purchase from the Nouseva Myrsky-shop with the code "Freelancer"!

I RAN AWAY AND JOINED THE CIRCUS

Last winter we did a goofy circus themed photoshoot with my wonderful friend and fab photographer Kaylin Idora. We were all exhausted, very tired and terribly hungover from the Burlesque Festival from the night before and it was crappy weather and I got stuck in the snow with my car when picking up Kaylin,  building the set was painful and we had forgotten props and clothes and almost gave up on the whole thing but in the end we managed to pull the shoot trough. A little (read: lot) of make up in your face and suddenly things are not all that bad...

I've always had a thing for the cirucs, or, to be more precise;  the kind of circus that once perhaps was but not really is anymore. (Btw I loved the series Carnivale when it aired. Did anyone else used to watch it? Too bad it was left so short.)

What, we? Us? Just posing here with our cardboard tiger...

But is so just happens that the circus will be in town tonight - we are performing our Belle Epoque / Art Deco number at Grand Casino Helsinki in the evening. It's the opening party of Espoo Ciné and the venue is free of charge, so it'll be easy to pop in if you're in town.

THE FARM HOUSE LIVINGROOM, AS IT IS NOW

As you may recall we spent a great deal of the early summer painting and fixing the int living- and dining room at the farm house. As we did not have a chance to renew the floor we cleaned it up and painted over it. (One of) the problem(s) was always that there were so many different shades of wood in the rooms that did not go well together, but now all frames and boards are in white which calms the rest down.

Here's how it looked back in, hmmm, lets see: 2010, 2011 (did some re-arranging) and up to last year when I bought some new furninture from an antique market:

The whole winter and a great part of the spring it looked like this while we were renovating...

And here's how it looks now!
We're not quite there yet,  but you can do such a big difference with just paint:
As with all the other rooms, one day I will paint the windows their original white too. It's such a big job (and has to be done in summer time) that I just try and close my eyes to the difference now. Will get some curtains to help until then.

Another way of spicing up a room that you can't renew properly is to put in lots of plants. Green it up!

I think it was Eddi's grandfather who made this small violin.

A lighter floor makes such a big difference! Much of the furniture belongs to the house, so we've re-arranged them a bit and tried to make the best of them. All furniture and lighting in the living room are vintage. As noone needs thee big cup boards or cabinets (!) in one room we put some away to be put int he study, once we get that cleaned up.

(I might have mentioned it before, that we can still put some things away and so on, but the bigger house that Eddi's brother and family lives in has some rooms that are basically not allowed to change;  that has looked the same always. It's quite nice, with old items and such, but it's also not that easy when making a home.)

My Chinese lamp I got from an auction last year now stands on the old Singer sewing machine table that we put in the dining room. Serves as a serving table too.

There's a new set of flowers in my tube collection.

The rather heavy furniture that was in the dining room also feels a little bit lighter now with the lighter frames of the room and the lighter base to stand on, and also with the new fabric I put on the chairs.

And Dag says hello!
