IT'S SNEAKING UP ON US...
I was going to write a bunch of stuff about Christmas colours and bla bla bla but I'll skip that, keep it clean and simple : this is what I was wearing today. Very inspired by the season, perfect for drinking glögg. Dry enough, but too cold for the shoes though, as I got to notice later. (I went to my hairdresser today and she commented that I'm obviously not heading to work afterwards :)
The dress is my fourth and last in the series of dresses to easily dress up and down. (Notice how good I am at linking myself here today :P) It's also from Barbara Brown, the only one which did not fit perfectly without some slight altering:
I had to open and take in the seam in the waist a bit since it got strangely puffy there. It was a bit to loose around the shoulders so I added a satin ribbon in the back, tying it into a bow to avoid the dress slipping off. You know I like fixing my dresses with ribbons.

Sigh. So jealous of your dress collection. My jeans look less and less appealing. I still love pants...I think I'm going to invest in some jumpsuit style overalls and more of these casual style dresses.
Just found your blog through Lisa Fremont St's tutorial. I love it so far. I also have the blue plaid dress from BBBB. It is my favorite dress right now. I had it altered up top when I got it as well. It's funny because I was thinking of wearing it to a wedding this month and I was trying to figure out how to dress it up. Any ideas for types of necklace/earring accessories to try? Any cool ideas for hair? I'll keep reading!
Jewlover2 : I'm quite bad at wearing pants but I'm starting to feel them again. And overalls, oh yes!
Miss Boston Mac: I think a round small pearl necklace and perhaps matching earrings? Or some other necklace in a round shape, something light to bright up the dress. I'd keep the jewellery quite simple though and go for putting some larger accessory in my hair, maybe not a flower but perhaps a glittery brooch?
That shade of red looks great on you! (I should keep that in mind...I have your same coloring/complexion but almost never wear it! I should! *haha!)
Hope505 : yes I know, I pretty much only wear red for Christmas...
Your modifications work really well with the dress. I wouldn't have guessed that it didn't come with the ribbon in the back because it works really well with the dress.
I also have a kind of random question: Are the sleeves on your cardigan pleated?
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous and I want to steal your shoes!
Great idea about the ribbon, I have the same problem with the shoulders of my BBBB dress (red floral edith), so I will give it s whirl.
I adore that dress! :o)
Such a sexy dress! As always.
Oh, how lovely! I seriously need more dresses, for example one like yours. :)
I love the little ribbon detail you added! And kudos on how well you wear plaid. I always think I'll look a little ridiculous in it, but I guess I just ought to try it. I love plaid more than I'm willing to admit.
WOW! That is a fantastic plaid dress... Love at first sight, Ulrika! Brilliant, brilliant...
P.S.: Don't forget to enter the Ellington headband giveaway!♥

I so love the dress! Plus the print and the color is so perfect for the holidays. :)
Oooh, what a lovely dress. It's so flattering. I've been wanting one just that style, actually, for ages.

The dress is beautiful! I really like how you've paired it with the red. I am going to steal that combo for my own blue/green/plaid skirts.
Fab! And a great idea! I have the satin dress from BBBB that's somewhat similar, and it's a bit big on the neck... I might nick your idea! :D
Well, post-alterations, it looks utterly fantastic. And way to inject some green and red without being over-the-top Christmas-y!
Love the dress, and are those shoes the ones I think they are? As in the same sixty-sevens I'm planning on wearing to a x-mas party this weekend? Anyway, they look amazing too ;)
you're style is awesome!
Fantastic dress on a gorgeous woman!
your such a fantastic sewer, I'm jealous - I always go to my grandma...
You are so gorgeous! love your heels!
You look so beautiful! x x
Hello from australia,
i'm so in love with your blog, you and your photos are just gorgeous!
I have a question about the Barbara Brown 1940's sweetheart dress. As it is part polyester, did you find it was ok to wear even in the warmer months?
It's just that i live in brisbane and it can get quite cold in the mornings but during the day its back up to 25 degrees Celsius.
It's going into winter now and i'm in desperate need of some winter dresses.
Thank you for your time if you have time to answer this :)

Julez_mez : thank you :) I haven't had a chance to try out the dress in warm weather yet as it just got warm here, but I don't think I'd wear it when weather being above +20c. I have worn it to clubs where I've been dancing a bit though - it got a little hot but not that bad. But sunshine, njaaah. In your case I might go for a cotton-fabric dress instead, and wear a warmer cardigan in the mornings, plus a thin petticoat that you can remove later in the day?
thank you so much for your response, great advice. I will have to find another cotton winter dress. I have some polester dresses and to be honest i only wear them during 2 months of the year cause they're way too warm.
Keep up the great work, i look forward to your next post.
