I WANT TO RIDE MY BICYCLE I WANT TO RIDE MY BIKE

In some matters I am the master of un-accomplishmentness (is that even a word?) - I was about to take my bike down to the bike cellar in my building for it's winter sleep a long time ago, but I was caught off guard by the snow in November. And the damn snow has stayed on the ground ever since! Not that that's any reason not to tuck the bike in there, but since the damage is sort of done already I have just let other things go first. Alas, the bike's still out there.
What a sad view from my window. Poor little rusting bastard.

Well, even if I'm complaining about all of the snow I am sort of enjoying it too. But I'm still waiting rather eagerly for spring. And if you look at it from the bright side and lie a little bit to yourself it will seem like spring is just around the corner, summer around the next... I crave for warmer days, lighter clothing and - riding my bike!

Which I will do in this darling dress:

I found this vintage dress in spring-like colours with a pattern of biking girls and boys, roses and bike tires on it when I popped by at sale my friend threw some days ago. Otherwise pretty perfect, but I will turn the sleeve in to 1950's style short cap sleeves and make pockets for the fluffy skirt with what's left of the sleeves. It will be great!

Bicycle!

Thankfully in Portland, with regard to bicycling, all we have to worry about in the winter is rain. Unfortunately, in general, all we have to worry about in the winter is rain. Even though I generally enjoy the rain, and dislike hot weather, even I'm getting ready for a couple of sunny days.

That dress is fantastic, I love the fabric and the cut of the dress - I think shortening the sleeves will be a great idea.

My wife and I just went on an organized bike ride here in Portland where everyone dressed up - the Tweed Ride - it was nice to feel we fit in a bit more, as Portland is generally very casual, and I get about as many stares for wearing a suit while riding a bicycle as I would if I were naked running down the street :)

Buggy Darling : I'll have to mend a little extra this year when spring comes I guess

Sal : Mine is showing it too :/

Melancholic Optimist : We've just had a clear sky and even sunshine after weeks of cloud and snow, the sunshine - if you get some - is wonderful this time of year. Hope you'll get a break from the rain too soon :)

I love the tweed ride pics! Well the whole idea actually :)

Do a search on flickr for "Portland Tweed Ride" and you'll get a lot more photos.

It was pretty fun, people with picnic baskets and wine, smoking pipes, etc (unfortunately, I'm not good enough at keeping my pipe lit yet to do it while riding) :) Plus, in a city that is dominated by automobiles, it felt really nice to be able to ride down the middle of the street slowly, to chat with people while riding and not have to worry about getting run off the road (since there were over 150 of us in the group) :)

nice dresses in the first row!
and good idesa of changing details; you could aswell stitch some parts with red yarn, that would define nice contrasts..

I too have been getting bike-lust here in the snowy midwestern US. I'm also hatching plans for springy ensembles to pull out in a few months.

You are hands down, the coolest fucking blog I've come across in months! I absolutely love the authenticity of your retro style -- its not contrived and put-on like many of your contemporaries but you completely and absolutely own it. I'm adding you to my daily reads because I need inspiration -- I need to be reminded that there are cool people like yourself out there who believe in making their own way.
