Erté is one of my favorite illustrators, you may remember; I've written about him before.

OOH LALA AND OTHER KITCHEN PRINTS

We do not call this a fashion blogf or nothing: today I am going to write a little about kitchen towels! Haute!

No but really. I like it with prints in the kitchen that still are not right there in your face you know. While I out in the countryside go for more classic checks stripes and flowers I keep on buying graphic prints for the apartment kitchen.
Mostly in the form of towels.

My newest one has mustaches, goes ooh la-la! and is all frenchy (although actually Norwegian). By Darling Clementine, that also has lots of other print products. You can find similar styles by Finnish design duo PolkaJam (lots of black cats in their kitchen-themed prints! Site in Finnish but you don't really need to get what it says, right?).

One favorite is... oh, wait, cat in the way.

...my Kippis-print by Marimekko. Marimekko needs no further introduction (shouldn't at least) but "Kippis" means "Cheers".
Lesson #1 in Finnish accomplished!

I also have a vintage kitchen towel my friend Aiju gave me once with a cocktail print. Or alcohol print actually. Every kitchen needs a little alcohol, you know - an opened red wine bottle hanging around int he corner, vintage martini ad calendar, alcohol towel. Or then not. But this one is funny.

FINTAGE

Quite recently I did a poster for Fintage; a Finnish vintage forum, community and blog. I tried to be somewhat active at the forum when it started a year ago but couldn't keep up as I just don't have the time to blog, tweet, update a facebook page and maybe even read some blogs every now and then... (and, you know, a have life off line too).

The theme of the poster was to be people on a certain bridge in one Finnish city. Can you tell which one? I'm not from around there so I had to rely on photos and google street view for some help :)You can click on the image for a larger view.

COME TO FINLAND!

Posters and postcards from the Come To Finland book; a book about vintage travel posters for Finland. I love old travel posters, and well, old posters in general. It's also interesting to see branding for Finland from back in the days.

You can browse the book as a whole online - I found some posters I remember form my childhood that were on the walls of our summerhouse (they still are actually). You can buy the posters and cards separately too, but I'll go for the book (and I actually intend to get it now, and not wait for some years like I unintentionally did with the Jaffas...)

EDIT : I have to add, as I realized many of you do not know; it's interesting and a bit sad too perhaps to see the poster for Wiipuri - Finland lost that big and old city to Soviet after the war, and tens of thousands of people had to leave their homes, buildings and businesses behind. Some of my family lived there in the early 1900's too.

THE MAN IN BLACK

The movie Walk the Line was a good, Jaquin Phoenix was amazing, Reese Witherspoon had lovely dresses and Johnny Cash himself is great. But the poster. Oh the poster, I love it. (It's done by Shepard Fairey). It's the best movie poster I've seen in years. I like old movie posters in general. Few new movie posters inspire me. Why arent' there more movie posters like this these days?

RED ORANGES AND AUTOKAT

We're having a small renovation in our flat so we had to leave home for this week. That means I can't do any work at all, and it could be considered a small vacation but instead of enjoying it, I feel more stressed than usually. But today we took a trip out of town to a place where one can take a walk in the woods and swim in the lake (a lake that is very very cold by now but it's nice anyway). Now I'm listening to Autokat, eating blood oranges and trying not to think of the fact that I have lots of work for the weekend the and that I have to move all the furniture back soon.

Here's a poster I always think of when I have oranges. Or orange soda. It's done by graphic designer Eric Bruun in 1960. I love the whole series made for Jaffa.
