BURLESQUE FOR THE MASSES!

Yey! We made it into the AGK Festival Top 10 and my face made it into the mag ;)

The yearly Helsinki Festival as well as Art goes Kapakka festival (which could be translated into something like “art hits the pub”), with lot and lots of happenings, kicks off about now. And we are part of it : ON the Night of Arts, Friday 21st, we’ll model for a Dr. Sketchy’s session togheter with some other local burlesque boys and girls in the window of a bookstore downtown (Suomalainen Kirjakauppa by Kolmen Sepän Patsas)! Afterwards we’ll do a show inside the store.

The day after, Saturday 22nd, it’s time for the Burlesque Goes Kapakka where we'll do two long sets in between the bands. You'll hear garage rock by Gunmolls & Gangster and rockabilly by Sweet Jeena and her Sweethearts. The evening starts with a burlesque-y pinup fashion show featuring Miranda Lingerie and accessories from Hoochie Mama Jane. (And us :)

Here's a sneak peak of the things you'll see...

There'll be some crazy Wild West action (Photo: Taina Kerttula)

And a trip to the Finnish country side some 50 years ago, with daisies, strawberreis and rautalanka! And much much more.

Congratulations! That sounds like oodles of fun.

Will it be weird modeling for Dr. Sketchy's after going to them to draw?

AndiPants : Naah, not really, since a lot of my friends have modelled and I was supposed to model before at a venue that didn't take place after all. But what will be a bit funny is that's in the centre of town and basically any bypasser who wants can join in!

Tyhmä kysymys, mistä olet löytänyt tuommoisia kokovalkoisia sukkia? Kaikki mitä itse oon löytänyt niissä on aina jotain "mukapornahtavaa" mautonta rimpsua..

Love your blog! I see you lived in Budapest, and I am going there for the first time in a week. Do you have any tips on places to visit? Shops, cafes, bars, etc... Would love to hear! Take care and have a lovely weekend!

Astri : Wonderful! Now is still a good time to go! It's six years since I lived there (jeez!)so a lot of things have propably changed.

Bars I like are Szimpla, Dupla and Szimpla Kert (google for addresses!). They were still around in 2007 when i visited. Sarok and Pot Culcs were also good, but I have no idea about what's up now... Feszek was great in 2003 but seems to have changed a bit since then. In the eight district, near oktogon there are also many fine cafees; the ones on FerencLiszt tér are nice but rahter tourist-y, but lok on the small streets nearby.

Castro (/castro bistro)is great for some wine and easy dining. I love it.

Check out Janet's blog, janetteria.blogspot.com and ask her for shopping advice since I'm so bad at remembering names of shops. She livees in BP. I also have a link to Retrock in my right column, they have vintage and loval design and it's located quite central. You can make great vintage finds at fleamarket but i canät remember any locations so ask Janet for that too!

Adn go bathing at szechenyi fürdö or Gellert.

All places mentioned above (apart from gelelrt) are on the Pest side, but dó take some time to stroll around Buda too (I lived on the Buda side but we mostly hang out in pest). Go to Batthyány tér (M2, the red line) opposite of the parliament and have pancakes at the palacinta cafe there. I went there almost daily :)
