A TOUCH OF NEW LOOK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT

Well here's something you haven't heard me say before (ha-ha):
I have a new pair of shoes! Pretty ones!

I love the fact that they make my feet look rather tiny. Not that they are big to start with, but I still kind of like it if they happen to apepar tiny.

I also have a giant rose.

Pretty similar to the black beret-outfit I did some time ago, but by changing the skirt one gets a totally different feel. This is loosely inspired by the New Look. Perhaps what I would have worn if I'd have been me sixty years ago exactly. And lived in, well, Paris perhaps.

I somewhere read someone saying you can't dress 'vintagy' unless you wear actual vintage or in some cases well done repro, but I claim that's not true - it's in the over all style and the details that the look lies; not the actual products. For me at least. Here I'm just wearing plain high street. But of course I'm not trying to be accurate or re-create an exact look; I seldom do, I only dress inspired by what I like.

The blouse is H&M (still haven't removed the zipper...), Skirt Zara, shoes from Next and betl from vivien of Holloway. The giant rose in made by Frollein von Sofa and the little beret is, as most of you know, by Molla Mills.

Exquisite!

I love the shoes especially - I would never say Next could acually make a pretty good replica of the old time shoes.

I should get a pair, too.

Oh goodness, you look so lovely in this outfit! I tried on a pair like those shoes only a while ago and dang if they did not fit over my ballet shoe mangled toes...not so very happy about that but they sure look lovely on you. :)

Hvor er du smuk;) I love the shoes! I have just bought my first pair of next shoes - winterboots though so I have to wait until winter to wear them. Perhaps one should try a pair of high heels next? are yours true to size?

Hey I´m from Brazil and I´ve been reading your blog for ages now but never really had anything to say till now therefore I never left a comment. Anyway, just want to say I totally agree with the fact that you can recreate a pretty good look out of items bought in regular stores. Some people were doing it up untill last year but now that they have vintage stuff they say it´s the only way to go. Please! Be creative people!!! I´ve seen you buy fabric and have dresses done that look exactly like the vintage ones if not better. To wrap this up, I also think people should be inspired by what they like and stop obessing about the whole vintage stuff. A little creativity is always good!

pardon me for asking but are you wearing anything underneath your skirt - like an underskirt or something to make it more puff?

Cinquefoil : oh, how sad... you wil have to go for a nice p air of ballet flats then :)

maja : I'm a 37, sometimes 38 and ordered these in 37,5 which is perfect.

Adriana : yes exactly, one should not take dressing too seriously

Maja : the skirt came with a basic underskirt attached but it's flat and smooth. I just have a lot of hip :) And the belt drags a lot in and pushes the rest out underneath, sort of :)

I'd read your blogs for a quite a while and this has to be my favorite outfit of yours! Also, I completely agree with you! I get asked why my blog is called "adventures of a vintage hippo" if none of my clothes are vintage. I tell people I have a vintage heart :) Lovely post as always!

OK thank you. Lucky you with those hips;) looks so great!

Lovely! I suppose after you have shoes in every color it means it is time to buy shoes in two colors! :D

Your hair looks great, but what really gets me are the shoes. Love that your outfit is created nearly exclusively in the shoes' colours.

Jag är så avundsjuk på dig för att du har den där blusen! Den tycks inte finnas på HM i Sverige. Skorna är ursnygga!

lovely outfit - you say nothing about the stockings or tights - think they are fantastic. Where did you get them from?

Great outfit, I had thought your previous Black Beret was my favorite but now I think I like this one more! I agree totally about replicating vintage looks.

Hear hear! Is there anything more annoying then snobbery? People with low selfesteem are proune to that kind of exkluding actions. It's wonderful to fiend something truly unique and with a history attached to it...but I also get exited when i fiend gems in highstreet stores.

Lovely look - I agree on the 'vintage dressing' - moreover I sometimes feel it is so boring to label and give rules on what or what not to. You just dress like you, and that suits you perfect!

FairyFiligree : the tights are Woolford, from this season!

GORGEOUS New Look tribute - you really suit it and I love how you get every detail right. I love that little beaded collar in the last post as well. Coveting madly.
