THE MOMMY BOX

Some time ago I received my mommy-pack!

Like I said earlier, I hadn't gathered -or had the need to get- that much baby stuff yet, only a couple of bodies and some eco baby oils. And a wool cap Eddi bought home from Bolivia.

But now I -or, we, actually- have more than plenty!

The mother package is handed out to all expecting mothers who live in Finland. Which is pretty great.

The items are good quality, quite cute, and very netural, to suit both boys and girls - the content is the same for everyone. It is updated about once a year.

It really contains an amazing lot of items; apart from clothing also bedding, towels and baby toiletries.

I packed away the slithgly bigger clothing and the winter items and put the tiniest ones ready for use. They are so small*! And they will be used so soon. Freaky.

*) although, considering the manner int which the baby will find it's way out they suddenly started looking pretty big. HAHA! (as in "ha ha". No, but really. Kind of looking forward to it by now.)

I find it really strange when I hold up a shirt or something in the smallest size in front of my belly, and then imagine that it will fit to the person in there... Is everything going well with you & your baby? My boy weights now 1930 gr, and I've seen him today again, he was smacking his lips in there ;) Oh, and I have a little cap just like that, from when I was a baby, brought to me from Argentina from an uncle. enjoy the next weeks!!

Is the package a gift from your country? I'm not sure I understood well, who gave you this package? If it's really a gift from Finland... I'm shocked! I didn't new there is a country which do such a things, awesome! I enjoy all of your post, and I'm still in love with you ;) although I don't comment a lot! Best wishes for you and your baby (and Eddi too:))

Katja : so far so good! We don't do scans here after the one around week 20 (unless needed for medical reasons) so I can only imagine what the little one looks like... Good luck for the weeks to come for you too, I think your expected date is pretty much the same as mine. (27.6)

Ramonies : yes, every mother in Finland gets one (or 140euros if she'd rather want it in money but the package is worth SO much more).

Double great with the baby box is that the cardboard box itself can be used as a bed for the baby the first weeks, month or so :) My sister actually took the money for her second and third kid, they had all the stuff already from the first kid, so no need for more. Even if I have no children myself I think it's so great with the baby box, not everybody know what they need for the baby or maybe can't afford it, so it's a great starter. And I think there are condoms and such also? So the parents remember how to avoid one more baby immediately after the last one (unless wanted) :D
Well, that's one really good thing we get back from paying lots and lots of taxes!

This is the most stylish and dainty way to prepare for child labor! Nice to know that your baby will be born in a world real organized, fun and fashionable.

Such lovely things.

Can't wait for some mummy and baby posts.

Closer to the date, I'd like to grab a postal address for you. There's something little and Australian I'd like to send for the baby. :D

Det är ju en fantastiskt grej. Tänk vad bra för alla som inte har råd med sakerna i början, som bebisen ändå kommer växa ur så snabbt.
Det där är en grej andra länder borde ta efter. Hoppas Sverige gör det! :)

Wow, that is so amazing that the government do that for new families. Amazing & lovely. Best of luck to you for the next couple of weeks!

Continuing on Ina's story about the useability of the maternity box is that after the baby doesn't sleep there anymore (if you prefer it as a first bed - handy to move around your home) is that it's a great nice, sturdy, big box where you can keep the baby's tiny clothes until a sibling comes along!

D-day here is 22-06 :) We have an ultrasound here inbetween week 32 - 34, so check upon the baby's growth/ weight. If it doesn't fit the schema, you have to stay in bed for the upcoming weeks. But when they scanned, we onlay recognized his nose, so the midwife looked again with us last week, and made some pics. ;)

I used to read your blog all the time, but now I havent had time in a long time(work before& now 2month old baby girl), but for some reason on mothersday I started to think from nowhere how cute mom you'd be! So I came here to and got extremely suprised! Congrats for your pregnancy and try to enjoy the last weeks of it! (:
