SUVI VINTAGE; THE SUMMER VINTAGE FAIR

Last weekend we took a daytripp with the smaller version of our family (which would be the version sans Dag's half-brothers) and headed up to Tampere to attend the Suvi Vintage fair.
This year the theme was the 1930's and holidays.

I've made the poster for the event  three years in a row but never managed to check out the whole thing before now!

Dag saw the carousel the minute we arrived and that was it for him.

Det var kört så att säga, as one would say in Swedish.
And you know how it is with toddlers, it does not matter if they get to do something they want once or twice or five times, they cry just as much when it's over anyway. Well, as the vendor said, his best customers leave screaming!

So I left Eeeeengi! (that's what Dag shouts when he hears me calling for Eddi) with some coins at the carousel and went to check out the rest of the fair.

And I immediately ran into this bunch!

 Lassi organises the whole thing.

Pepper and her curls. She made Lassi's hat btw!

 Olivia and Those Nails!

Atelieri O.Haapala were there shooting their ever so popular cabinet portraits too. Here is the other half of the duo; Saara aka Onyxei Haapala.

The venue, Tallipiha, is a very pretty place!

This little fella walking his grandma (or more likely mom, but grandma makes it sweeter!) was so cute!

And so were these very young dancers.

I actually did not buy anything! I'm not really good at shopping when there is a lot to choose from and when I don't really need anything. Which makes me rather smart in the end.
Well, I did get something lovely for both my sisters' future babies though!

Some days it's easy to go anywhere with kids -they are fine to just go along looking at things- and other days it is not. This could be described as the later. Here Dag is trying to make his most cute faces in order to get yet another round of the carousel.

So we let him look at some real horses instead.

And he got to ride a pony!

And then it was time to head home! But first some pancakes.

WEDDING DRESSES

On the coldest day of this winter -which apparently is not over yet thank you very much god damn second round of snow!- I drove up to a pretty location in Tampere to shoot some of my friend's Olivia Rouge's vintage - and rockabilly inspired wedding (& bridesmaids) dresses.

Thankfully I was not part of the ice cold outdoor shoot... although the pictures do look beautiful!

All photos by Anna-Liisa Nikus.
You can browse Olivia's made-to-measure wedding dresses in her shop.

PLAID AND STRIPED

I just can't believe it's mid-Nove,ber already! When did this year go by? Again?
I just realized today it's even starting to be alright to wish for snow, which I kind of do and kind of don't, or at least to expect it (you know, when it does come it will stay aroudn for months).
It feels colder day by day and I've taken my warmer jackets back to use.

I have no idea what to put on my feet though, as all my 'cold-weather shoes' are rather worn out. I have however re-discovered these old boots of mine form years back, as I dug the out of the closet to use at the Mexican themed party at Halloween. One of those shoes with a rather high heel that you still can walk around comfortably for hours in. But these are not of much use for when the snow comes around... what then my friends, what then.

The wool skirt if made for me a few years ago by Olivia Rouge and the jacket is from Mod Cloth.

HORROR & TEASE AND MORE

A couple of weeks from now I will start this burlesque-weekend-gig-marathon; each and every weekend some place different. From Helsinki to Lahti to Tampere to Pori and then back to Helsinki again. (Those are all Finnish cities in case some of you started wondering...)So that means a whole lot of putting on make up doing hair and, of course, shaking. For more info (yet to come) and details you can check out the Itty-Bitty Tease Cabaret blog.

But before that I will do a whole lot of drawing; I drew the poster above for Olivia Rouge's Horror&Tease event on Halloween in Tampere (that you saw a bit of in progress some time ago).

Next up is something for a porn lady and then for a politician. It's the contrasts that make it worth while now isn't it!

WHEN JUST AT HOME pt.1

Every now and then, quite often actually, I get the question weather I always dress up, what I wear when hanging around the house, do I ever wear jeans and sneakers (no, but I quite often go to work like this) , do I " always look vintage" (I hope nobody gets offended but that question amuses me a bit, as you know, I do not aim to look like anything except than just good although my inspiration may come from the old days) and so on.

It of course really depends on the day and my schedule, but if I'm not going anywhere in particular I naturally choose not to wear the most delicate clothes but go for those more durable and, most of all, comfortable pieces in my closet. I prefer those kinds of items that can easily go from leisurly dressed into being dressed. In winter for example, my vintage knitted skirt that stretches in the waist.

Here is a new favorite of mine; the black soft Vivien-dress made by my friend Olivia Rouge:
Comfy as a night gown, but easily dressed up with some lipstick and heels! (note that I asked to have mine made a bit longer, the model on this dress is shorter in the shop)

And also, note that Olivias shop can be viewed in English nowadays and she also ships worldwide without you needing to write some extra emails, just click and buy!

MORE ABOUT HATS

(Outfit post.)

Slightly inpired by the late 30's for a hat party my fellow Itty-Bitty Tease Cabaret girl Paula threw for her 29th birthday yesterday.

The hat is made by Olivia Rouge, the skirt is vintage, belt Vivien of Holloway and the rhinestone buttoned top H&M.

I also bought myself a new hat today! (Sundays are great for online shopping). If you Like The Freelancer's Fashion Blog on Facebook you can see what I got. Which you'll of course see here at some point too :)

POLKA DOT PENCIL SKIRT

Skirt - Olivia Rouge
Tights - Norlyn's PinPoint
Top - Freddies of Pinewood

I had the idea of a polka dot pencil skirt but there was no such to be found anywhere - so I had to have one made for me! Olivia Rouge did a great job (and I wiggle like hell in it)!

COLD BLUE, WARM BROWN

I've been lying low on the outfit post front for some time as winter is not really the most inspirational time to dress up and I've been working most of the time anyway. But here's one!

The tailored skirt is made for me by Olivia Rouge and the red velvet bows are from Frollein von Sofa.

(And yes, I should rather be wearing something like my purple Parikka's on my feet, these ones you know, but you have to cut me some slack as there's a lot of snow outside. My winter shoes are pretty alright though, with warm socks especially. I bought another pair for next year already which probably means I'm growing really old or something...)

POLKA DOTS, TEXTILE CUPCAKES AND CELL PHONE PICS

A couple of days ago I took the train trough a beautifully white and shimmering winter landscape to Tampere to visit my friend and fellow burlesque gal Olivia Rouge. She is also aprofessional seamstress and I picked up two items tailored for me. Olivia's working space is for the moment situated on the small loft in Vaudevillle Boutique. She has recently developed her webshop so why not sheck it out. International orders have to be emailed separately though.

Skirt lining being cut out (and I'm not that impressed with my new mobile phone's camera).

Polka dot skirt developing!

Vaudeville Boutique has delicious muffin pin cushions and cream whip rings! (And I'm almost impressed by new mobile phone's camera now!)

VAUDEVILLE BOUTIQUE

I'm proud of my friends - my fellow burlesque performers Mimi de FrouFrou, Lafayette Lestrange and Olivia Rouge have opened a shop for all burlesque and retro lovers in their home town of Tampere!

Vaudeville Boutique is a beautiful shop full of pretty, kitschy and delicious things from labels such as Stop Staring, What Katie Did and Kiss Me Deadly - not to forget a bunch of Finnish designers and friends as well; hats and fascinators from Fiona Timantti, accessories from Molla Mills, clothing from Mirkka Metsola and Olivia Rouge herself, plus many more. Olivia also has her small studio upstairs where she can sew you custom clothing.

The store is located just by the train station on Rautatienkatu 26 so if you visit Tampere you'll find it hard to miss. If you are a local I take it you've been to the store already, right?

For all of you everywhere elsewhere than around here the online shop is begin constructed.

This is surely the largest dressing room in Tampere! It actually is a room.

I payed the store a late night visit before a show of ours over there and got myself a hair clip from Olivia Rouge, which I attached to my angora beret instead of my hair. (Because you can do that too you know :)

(Ps. Mimi will be our guest star on Club Wanted in Novemeber!)
