ON THE WHITE DUNES

Last weekend Jackie, Lola and I headed up north to the plains of Pohjanmaa for a nightclub gig. The morning after, before taking the train home, we took a walk on the snow covered sand dunes. It was very cold, all-white creating a dramatic scenery. The photos turned out almost like stills of a film .(Well especially after I added the borders, heh)

You're not helping my longing for a frigidly cold winter, as I look outside and it's about +2 C and dumping rain.

I want snow and to have to bundle up and for my beard to freeze instantly, and to have to warm up when I go back inside... I miss that a lot.

Great photos!

Q : thanks :)

Dave : I know what you mean, although I complain when it starts getting too cold. But if you have the time to choose when you go out and in, and don't have to wait for a bus or hurry somewhere, dress properly and have the chance to come in whenever you want for a cup of something hot, with ice in your hair, scarf or beard, even lashes, then it can be great. Especially afterwards with that warm cup, feeling how your feet start warming up again, having it cosy indoors, looking out on the cold. That's nice :) Maybe you'll get a real winter too later on? Not beard-freezing cold perhaps but at least some snow?

Yes, that feeling of drinking a hot tea while the ice in your beard and hair thaws, and the feeling starts to come back to your fingertips....

I really enjoy feeling and experiencing the weather, even if it isn't always comfortable at the time, there is something very nice about that whole process of bundling up, then becoming cold, then unbundling, then becoming warm again. It's not *always* nice, of course, as you mentioned, but I prefer that to just 4 months of rain.

We might get a real winter, we sometimes do have snow in January of February, and occasionally in December. Here's hoping :)

We were there at summer and it was a bit warmer back then, nearly +28. It must have an awesome view right now!

Snow covered sand dunes?! Wow amazing, I'm not sure I even knew that sand dunes could freeze like that. Those are some really beautiful photos.

Norma Jeane : I've never been there before but I've seen pictures frmo summer, must be great :)

Poppy Lane : yes it freezes like everything else. Sand gets real hard when frozen.

Anonymous : they are bought somewhere in California when she was there last summer...

Ah, Kalajoki! I kinda wish I had known you ladies had a gig there, Kalajoki is a lot closer for me than the places you usually have gigs at, and it would have been great to see your group perform. Guess I should start following the itty bitty blog now too so that I don't miss out again...Hope the gig went well, the photos from the dunes are really filmescue, nice!

These are really swell photographs and I'm quite convinced by the frames - you should make up a little plot for the could-be film. Speaking of which, have you done any acting or theatre performances?
