SUVI-VINTAGE 2019

This year's Suvi-Vintage poster that I did got summery vibes from the late 1950's.
The vintage fair is in Tampere 29-30.6. I am performing elsewhere but you go!

And now I am off to Paris! Peforming on Wednesday, there until Friday evening. Last time I was there was twenty-one years ago, so hit me with your best and most charming to-do's there!

FOUR THINGS RIGHT NOW

Or, that were today.

Long time no smoothie! I have a bit of chaga at home of so I made an antioxidant-rich smoothie out of chilled chaga-tea, mango, some cherries and physalis.

Admiring my super huge (1,81m) Mucha-poster that I ordered from the Mucha museum. I saw the original sized theatre posters there when performing in Prague earlier this year but couldn't get it then due to luggage restrictions. I ordered it on Wednesday in the afternoon and it arrived in less than 24 hours on Thursday morning! I will glue it to a board and then hang it in our living room.

And then on with a lurex dress and out to listen to music! Went to the Russian centre of culture for a mesmerizing concert of Altai' music with Alexey Chichakov. (He is playing in Heinävesi Sat 13. and Tampere Sun 14., go listen if you have the chance!)

And oh! Next week season 2 of Vintage-Valtakunta starts. Tuesday 16th at 20, Yle 1! Finland only I'm afraid.

THE SEASON(S) APPROACHING...

Let me first start this by saying that I am definitely and foremost waiting for Halloween (and now that the second week of October is about to start I consider Halloween-season here!).

But.

While it is as little as 80 days until Christmas (!!!),  it is only 56 until our yearly Christmas show, which this year will kick off the whole festive season:
This year we are celebrating at our Rubies-Klubit burlesque club's home venue Sture 21.

Poster by me, as usual.

Ps. and first Halloween, yes. Catch me at these Halloween events: Horror & Tease in Tampere Oct.13 and our very own Rubies Klubit: Demoniklubi on Oct.27!

ITALY!

Hello! Even though it may not always seem like it, I am still here! At least for the joy of all of those marketing SEO- and escort services, who I know from the comments are the ones that for sure still visit ("visit") my blog.
But this is however a quick one, because now I am off to Italy to enjoy myself! But I did manage to schedule a couple of small posts so the spambots have something to dig in to.

Happy midsummer!
(...and for all the Finns, the greeting you have to add to this holiday: take it easy and be safe!)

Vintage travel poster by from ze interwebs - the artist  is Mario Puppo, who did a lot of travel posters in the mid 1900s.

UNDER THE MISTLE TEASE

I made a poster today.
And I am making an event in two months:

This will be the fifth edition of Under the Mistle Tease already! Crazy how time flies.
More info on the event page, tickets from our Studio Shangri-La webshop.

But before that it's time for our other event; the Halloween edition of Rubies Klubit: MÖRKÖKLUBI! October 28th at Sture 21.
Be there or, umm, be taken by some ghouls or so.

SUVI-VINTAGE VINTAGE FAIR IN TAMPERE

Suvi-Vintage will, as usual, take place at Tallipiha also this summer.
Here's the poster I made for this year's event:

I'm busy burlesquing that weekend so I won't attend, but you go if you're around Tampere, it was fun!

1-2-3-BLASTOFF! SPECTAC-O-RAMA 2015

Tonight it's time for the rock n'roll vaudebilly spectacle again!
At MusiikkiTeatteri Kapsäkki tonight and in December plus next Friday at Voimateatteri in Kouvola!

Last year we were part of producing the event, and so this year, although this time we've only produced the burlesque parts for us and our student troupe The Shangri-La Showgirls and not so much the setup for whole evening.
Poster by me.

SUVI-VINTAGE / FABRIC & VECTOR

This year's poster I did for Fintage's summer-vintage-happening Suvi Vintage.
The event takes place the last weekend of June in Tampere.

I like to use mixed media and blend in patterns that look pasted on. I did that a lot just for fun too back when I (for some strange reason I can not figure out) had the time to do outfit drawings. Perhaps because I did not have a child then. Or was dependent on a businesses of my own).

I scan or take photos of materials and textures; here I took photos of a few of my dresses, a jacket and and Eddi's shirts.

Here is a photo of my Marimekko dress for example.

Which I then coloured blue.

And turned into a skirt in a row of many!

SPECTAC-O-RAMA!

People in and around or coming to Helsinki! Book your calendars for November 8  & 29 as our spectacular spectacle of glitter and dance and burlesque and live rock n'roll will take place then at Allotria Saturday night club:

We're doing another collaboration show with cabaret loving rockabilly band Sweet Jeena & Her Sweethearts this fall, a two-hour revue of crazy and fabulous; Spectac-O-Rama. On stage also queerly fab Mia Li Moon and our highly popular performing student troupe The Shangri-La Showgiris!
You can check the Facebook event for more info, we'll update it all fall: Spectacorama on Facebook.

The poster is made by me, inspired by and old Vegas travel ad.

And as we are on it with the BurlyQ, it's time to end and announce the Paljettipommi-zine giveaway:
Total randomness landed on commenter no9, Talvikettu, who'll receive an email from me soon!

SUVI VINTAGE WEEKEND POSTER

This year's poster I made for the Suvi-Vintage event.
The theme is the 1930's and holidays so I put in some giant 30's pants.

YULETIDE APPROACHING...

Because we only have about one thousand other projects and gigs running right now Tinker Bell and I are also producing an event in the middle of December. But it will be worth all the blood, glittery sweat and tears as it will be the craziest, funniest, most sparkly and fab (and also, only) Christmas Burlesque revue in town!  We have a lot of surprises and new acts up our sleeves. (Sleeveless sleeves, that is. )

At Diana, Saturday December 14! Get your tickets from Tiketti. And do go get them.
You can find the link to our Facebook event HERE.

Asko Rantanen took the photo for our poster which I made.

SUVI VINTAGE POSTER

I made the poster for the 1940's inspired vintage fair 'Suvi-Vintage', coming up at the end of June in Tampere.

Last year I had just had Dag and this year I'll be holding a workshop at that time so no vintage-filled Tampere weekend for me this year either...

WILL WORK FOR CLOTHES / HORROR & TEASE

I am getting ready for premiering my new number tomorrow (in other words, have been dead busy as usual, this time with a baby by my side too. Phew.) at the Finish Burlesque Gala. Which is sold out. So if you missed out on the tickets and thus didn't manage to get your October dose of burlesque, of if you just cant get enough, or if Tampere is more convenient for you than Helsinki there is another superb event next week: the second annual Horror & Tease Show!

Just as last year,  I did the poster for Miss Olivia Rouge's Halloween burlesque party spectacle.
And just like then, I will get paid in clothes now too. Obviously I'd be ruined if I did all my works like this but then again I buy quite many dresses with the money I earn anyway so in this case it's just cutting out the middle man. Hahaha.

Last year I was performing and the Bitties too but this year there won't be any Horror& Tease for me neither on stage nor as a spactator; too far away for me. (Or, for Dag actually, to be precise). But among many other one gets to see Anna Fur Laxis on stage instad and she is one of my absolute favorites, ever! I mean I saw her to this in Vegas for example:

The event is a week form now; next Saturday. That would be the 27th.
Get your advance tickets from the Olivia Rouge Shop in Tampere.

And once we're at it; let's throw in a little speedy give away too! One of you will have the chance to win a pair of tickets (your names on the list) for the event. You have time until Tuesday Oct.23 to enter; I will announce the winner then! Leave a comment on this post letting me know your in for the competition. And as usual, make sure you are reachable to me.

SUVI IS FOR SUMMER

If I wouldn't be just about giving birth at that time, or recovering from it, I might do a little summer trip over to the city of Tampere to visit the vintage fair Suvi-Vintage, organized by the Finnish vintage society Fintage.

It will be a 1940's themed outdoor event with vintage and antique sellers from around the country, bands playing old time dance music as well as dance lessons earlier in the day. Plus it has poster made by yours truly.

HORROR & TEASE AND MORE

A couple of weeks from now I will start this burlesque-weekend-gig-marathon; each and every weekend some place different. From Helsinki to Lahti to Tampere to Pori and then back to Helsinki again. (Those are all Finnish cities in case some of you started wondering...)So that means a whole lot of putting on make up doing hair and, of course, shaking. For more info (yet to come) and details you can check out the Itty-Bitty Tease Cabaret blog.

But before that I will do a whole lot of drawing; I drew the poster above for Olivia Rouge's Horror&Tease event on Halloween in Tampere (that you saw a bit of in progress some time ago).

Next up is something for a porn lady and then for a politician. It's the contrasts that make it worth while now isn't it!

FINTAGE

Quite recently I did a poster for Fintage; a Finnish vintage forum, community and blog. I tried to be somewhat active at the forum when it started a year ago but couldn't keep up as I just don't have the time to blog, tweet, update a facebook page and maybe even read some blogs every now and then... (and, you know, a have life off line too).

The theme of the poster was to be people on a certain bridge in one Finnish city. Can you tell which one? I'm not from around there so I had to rely on photos and google street view for some help :)You can click on the image for a larger view.

(As usual I always end up with two versions, the client's one and a more plain one I prefer, you can view the other one here.)

COME TO FINLAND!

Posters and postcards from the Come To Finland book; a book about vintage travel posters for Finland. I love old travel posters, and well, old posters in general. It's also interesting to see branding for Finland from back in the days.

You can browse the book as a whole online - I found some posters I remember form my childhood that were on the walls of our summerhouse (they still are actually). You can buy the posters and cards separately too, but I'll go for the book (and I actually intend to get it now, and not wait for some years like I unintentionally did with the Jaffas...)

EDIT : I have to add, as I realized many of you do not know; it's interesting and a bit sad too perhaps to see the poster for Wiipuri - Finland lost that big and old city to Soviet after the war, and tens of thousands of people had to leave their homes, buildings and businesses behind. Some of my family lived there in the early 1900's too.

THE JAFFAS

Some years ago I mentioned the Jaffa posters here on this blog; soda advertisements from the late fifties and early sixties that made the billboards again in a retro campaign a few years back. I've always wanted these posters and for some reason I kept on wondering how to get them until it last summer struck me - what the hell is wrong with me? Few things are ever further than a google away!
(Yes, really, sometime I am so old school I actually forget about the internet and think I have to find stuff in real life.)

A few minutes later two of the Jaffas where on their way home to me.

The posters are made by Erik Bruun, one of my favorite Finnish graphic designers (I really love this one too for example :). They can be ordered from his shop.

HOOCHIE MAMA JANE

Kallio is the best part of town.

In other words, here's where I'll be tomorrow:

Hoochie Mama Jane will probably be one of the smallest vintage stores you'll ever visit, but it still fits an amazing lot of wonderful things. Apart from hand picked vintage items from here and there and everywhere it also has some hand made accessories and stationery, as well as Tyra Therman's burlesque-ish creations!

The owner is a friend of mine, who you could earlier spot at Ansa Vintage.
I hepled out with the graphic design for this one.
Anyway, the opening party is tomorrow, starting at 12! Vaasankatu 10 in Kallio.
Let's see how many can fit in at once shall we? Wohoo and oh yeah!
