FANTASIA PICNIC / SITTING FOR A PAINTING

A couple of days ago Dag and I went for a late afternoon park picnic. It also served as a set up for a future painting. It will part of a series of paintings of performers. But more on that once the series is finished and the artist has gotten to present her work by herself first.

First of all I just have to say that  IT IS FINALLY WARM.

Tinker's rainbow hair.

Fiona, the milliner.

Sandy.

Pepper and her hairpiece.

Mimi and her girls.

And me and my little boy.

Who found a new friend.

Picnic patterns.

Petra's paintings are always full of colours and patterns and it will be interesting to see how this eventually turns out!

LOW KEY AND A LITTLE FLOWERS

This is how I dress up for work sometimes...

Atelieri O.Haapala was, as usual, present at the Helsinki Burlesque Festival a few weeks back with their pop up atelier. Here's one of my performer photos for this year, I love it!

The number I premiered was one I had planned for years. I spent a lot of time working on the costume, although I did not do everything myself. The headpiece, with leaves that turn into fans, was, as you know,  made for me by Fiona Timantti Millinery, and many of the flowers I used for my clothing was made by Anastasia, The Crazy Flower Maker. There is also a dress, which you can't see here, that Olivia Rouge sew me.

Although I had the costume ready planned in my head for a long time I sought up some inspiration pictures to go along while putting it together, some of which you can see here:

You can see more of Atelieri O.Haapalas fabulous festival photos here.

AT THE HAT MAKER'S

I have a friend who is not only a fabulous stylish woman but also a very skilled milliner; Fiona Timantti. Her atelier is also kind of a hat museum, as she resides in and takes care of the old fashion store of Maria Pelanne, which opened in 1942. The place still looks as it did then.

Fiona is now making me a head piece for my upcoming number and I am very eager to see the results!

She has made stunning pieces for showgirls and celebrities alike, as well as hats for everyday wear (which you have seen me model on some occasions, here for example). You can read a good post about why her pieces are "so expensive" - it applies to all other things made by hand as well.

CHEESE! / PINUP HELSINKI

I did some posing for PinUp Helsinki earlier this year.

PinUp Helsinki is the first neo pinup studio in the country. It's run by some friends of mine and they organise shoots quite regularly that anyone has the possibility to book and become a classic pinup for a day.

Photo by PinUp Helsinki / Jirina Alanko
Hair & styling : Fiona Timantti
Make up : Miia Magia

PS. you have the chance to win a photoshoot by liking the PinUp Helsinki facebook page; enter their competition here!

And, the best dressed spectator at Suomi Burleski Gaala; the Finnish Burlesque Gala will win a 100€ gift card for a shoot at the studio. We (The Itty-Bitties) will be performing a classic routine of ours there and the group we have been coaching trough weekly classes with Tinker Bell will premiere their first number, which makes me all excited and proud.
The gala is on October 19th, get your tickets form Tiketti in time not to miss out!

I AM ACTUALLY JUST ABOVE AVERAGE HEIGHT / ELLE STYLE AWARDS 2012

I went to the Elle Style Awards yesterday. I didn't manage to take any photos before the event (surprise...) so here's the classic gala cover-pose photo instead.

I wore a vintage dress I have had for years but never really got around to wear.
The yellow pearls are old and paired up wit my yellow shoes, the bag is vintage.

I should have chosen the higher pair of shoes though. I look like a midget next to Tyra and Fiona...

CANDY HATS AND POM POM SNOW

I've been really ill the past days and although I'm starting to join the world of the living again I still look like a Walking Dead (great series by the way, spent the last sick hours watching season two!). So I thought I'd do a little mini series on the blog called "Photos of me when I was still fresh".
Haha.
No, but really, yo may remember the-behind-the-scenes of me modelling for Fiona's hats some months ago? Here's one of the pictures!

Photo by Saara Salmi, make up & hair by me.
The jacket is vintage, the fake fur collar by Fiona Timantti and the hats can be bought trough her Etsy for example.
We shot some other goregus hats too, so there will be more later on.

THE SURPRISE SUIT

You know that joyful feeling of suddenly discovering one piece in your wardrobe that you did not know exist?

OK; maybe you don't know. Maybe it's not that normal to find out you have had a vintage wool two piece suit hanging in the back of your closet for a couple of years at least!

I went to the storage closet - quite the trip I tell you, all the way trough the messy study with suitcase after suitcase of burelsque stuff waiting to be unpacked after shows. And the US suticase from last summer with one cotton dress and two tops still in it (I did not just admit that!) -to already pick up my winter jacket since I had been feeling cold and there all the wtf of a sudden the suit was, all the way in the back! It took me quite the while to go "oooh, that one!". I had completely neglected it for a couple of years.

Semi thick wool and lined, the perfect jacket for this both warm-and-chilly-at-the-same-time autumn weather. And with a warm pleated skirt too!

I think this is my grandmother's suit. It it most likely from the early seventies. But rather timeless ain't it? I remember not being too thrilled about it in the beginning as it was a little bit too big for me earlier, but, ehrm, it has magically shrunk during it's time in the closet. Amazing isn't it? And it's nothing wrong with it being a little bulky, I can fit more warm knits under it!

And, what best, it is just the same colour as my Fiona Timantti hat! Wooh!

(This reminded me of another suit I also have tucked away in the realms of my closet. But as my body has miscomprehended the fact that it is only the nose and ears that are supposed to keep on growing it might be a little too tight for me by now. That damn ass of mine just won't stop growing! Damn you, derrère.)

HATS, FAKE SNOW AND PIN UP PROPS

I did some hat modelling for my friend and rather fabulous milliner Fiona Timantti. You've seen me model summer hats of hers before (here), but now we were shooting her winter hats.

We shot at Studio Blank where Saara and Marco (that you mostly know from Atelieri O.Haapala) resides. But Saara toghether with Fiona and make up artist Miia Magia also runs Pin Up Helsinki, a team that styles and shoots pin up photography. (If you are interested in getting pin up shots of yourself or to give a photo session as a gift to someone you can find more info on their Facebook page.)
They did some shooting when I arrived, but I couldn't of course snap any pictures of that so here are som details of props (that's a giant heart for you there in the middle) and make up instead.

And then we prepared for the hat shooting! You have got to love those huge snow flakes!

And here's me in a collar and hat!
I however did slightly different faces for the actual photographs.

RED BLACK AND BLUE

So, now I'm off to TV1's Puoli Seitsemän show for the styling. The planning and my actual part was filmed last week already, I will just go there today to see things from behind the scenes. The show will air at 18:30 and you can watch it afterwards from Areena, but only in Finland I'm afraid. Longer versions of all stylings will be available on Olotila; where also the voting will take place, starting from tomorrow.

My hat is by fabulous Fiona Timantti and the skirt is Vivien of Holloway.

HATS OVERLOAD ( + ME OVERLOAD)

Some time ago I modeled hats for Fiona Timantti. Here are the results; the photos of her fabulous hats!

Fiona's own site is not up for the time being, but if you are interested in hats of hers I suggest you check out her blog and contact her!

The Photos are taken by Riku Ryynänen.

So Iäve been thinking of getting myself one of Fiona's creations but how on earth am I going to choose??
