SATURDAY WITH YELLOW SHOES AND A CANDY BAG

I may have been out in fab shoes and K with a nice new dress but Satyrday night wasn't that great this time. It was a bit strange actually. After a birthday party K and I ended up in jazz - hell, where it felt like the same song was playing over and over again. Later on we almost got into a fight when some idiots tried to steal a cab from a blind girl who had been queuing just in front of us in the taxi line for almost an hour. We had to wait for a cab so long after that we could have walked home back and forth a couple of times. But I was pleased to see my cats had warmed up my bed for me as I got home; they were lying there purring and waiting for me.

THE WARMEST DRESS EVER

It was quite cold in the weekend so I dresed myself warm here at home in my mothers old knitted dress with a thick turtleneck.I really like this dress, it's both warm and soft and figure flattering at the same time. But I never wear it outside the house because I can't really find the occasion - it's too warm for bars or shopping, but maybe it'd be good if I worked in an office, or perhaps suitable for a nice sunday walk and some coffee somewhere. But but but. The main reason I only wear it at home is the fact I have no idea what shoes or jacket to wear it with. My flat black suede boots? Or the cognac-coloured boots with a high square heel? The few times I've gone outside in this dress I've worn it with my mom's old brown suede boots with a low heel but semi-thick sole. And I really don't have any jacket that would go toghether with this dress. What kind should you wear with long straight dressed like this one, a long coat?

ICE ICE BABY

(Ok. Sorry about that headline. Vanilla ice is just awful.)

My parents gave me a great present for christmas; ice skates. I haven't had a pair for years. That also means I haven't skated for years either. Quite excited about it, I was planning to go ice skating with K. We were both laughing about how it propably would be - we'd dress up all nice and layered in knits and socks and scarves but most likely we'd only skate for a bit on shaky legs, then retry for some hot chocolate or black currant juice (and we'd propably smoke some cigarettes too, even though that does really not go all that well togehter with the ice-princess look).

I've always had this image of me ice skating looking girly a dress and wearing lots and lots of layers, maybe because when I was a little girl mom would always dress me up really practical and warm for skating (of course!) while I just wanted to look like an ice princess...

Alix and Clara seem to know what I'm talking about...

I went skating some days ago with J and my parents . And hah, I didn't look a bit like an ice princess but dressed up warm and practical, just like my mother taught me (well good too see that I've learned at least something) because it was quite windy and cold outside. It wan't that bad though, I was wearing my mom's old ski outfit from the late 70s, very tight, very retro, quite warm (you know, no high-tech fabrics back then...). And a white knitted cap that makes me look a bit like a big baby! I wan't that crappy at all, after the first few shaky minutes I remembered the whole skating-thing and had fun!

FRIDAY GIRLS

Yesterday I went to my good friend Mia's farewell party; she is moving to Oslo soon (she got a nice job there within fashion). So yesterday she trew her farewell party at her (supernice) flat. We took a taxi tour around town trying to decide where to go afterwards, ending up at a club I don't like - that no one of us likes actually- but atleast it was close to me so I could walk home later (and I had a pizza with double cheese on and some milk on the way, mmmm).

The host of the evening was looking gorgeus (and she has very cool biker-like boots).

K was also looking great as always too, in a dress from pudel

Tonight there is another farewell-thing.
All my friends are moving away...

TO TALLINN

Well, whatever I choose to wear tomorrow night this is what I will be travelling in; a supercute blouse/tunic from H&M (that I bought today), a long black cardigan, leggings (I should wear some of my pants or jeans sometimes too. I have a lot of them but they lay lonely and unused in the back of my closet), a pair of warm knitted socks and my old Vagabond boots that I've re-discovered lately.

I was actually going to the gym tonight but I've just been making drawings instead. Shame on me.

BOND PARTY

I've always had a crush on Daniel Craig but after seeing the latest Bond movie last year I'm totally in love with him.

Ok, I just had to get that said but anyway; I'm going to Tallinn for the weekend. I'm going to attend a huge party there, thrown by one of the companies I'm employed at and the theme is James Bond. Couldn't really find anything at home or in my favourite secondhand store so I went out shopping, which I haven't done for ages. The January sale is still happening and I just looked great in everything I tried on so I let my little visa card do it's thing (and I´ll weep at the end of next month).

Now I just can't decide on what to wear - should I go for the evil agent look in a 60's style dark dress with (fake-)leather applications (from Gina tricot, first time I ever bought anything from there) and my old vintage boots and semi-long leather gloves, or should I just wear a little black dress (from H&M) and long shiny gloves for a more classic Bond-girl look? I was thinking of going as the evil agent and saving the LBD for the Helsinki Burlesque Festival that I'll attend in February but I think I'll take both outfits with me just to be sure...

THE RUSSIAN DOLL

Dress - Diesel, Scarf - Indiska
Turtleneck knit and tights- H&M

I went out to get some groceries and to buy some haircolour (still trying to get my hair white again after having it a bit darker last summer) and decided that I was tired of looking like shit even though I'm a bit sick. So I dressed nice and warm and made myself look like a russian (sort of) doll with a folky style knitted dress, a patterned wool scarf and red cheeks, a dark red small mouth and long lashes (Lancomes Fatale always does the trick). Cute outfit but since I kept my jacket all the time no one really saw it...

Outside it was snowing for the first time this winter (apart from a few days in November I think) and everything was quite calm and quiet even though there were a lot of people around. Snow somehows soften all noises and sounds in such a strange way. I decided to walk to a store a bit further away than the one on my street to get some fresh air - and so that someone actually could see my nice outfit...- and I ended up buying a lot of vegetables for my soups and different kinds of juices. In the end my bag became really heavy and I'm still weak and coughy so I was sweating and it was hell to walk back. I looked like shit anyway when I got back home.

LALALA MY NEW DRESS

I really like my new dress and now I want to use it all the time (even today when I'm ill and had to go out just for al little while). But it was almost as costy as my planeticket to Amsredam so I really better wear it a lot. Good thing it's a versatile piece of clothing so I guess I can have it quite much before I grow tired of it.

My friends said it's a dress for life - if I get many more sizes bigger it will still fit (the arms will stretch) and hah, I can even have it as a maternity dress when - or if- that time comes... :)

BACK HOME WITH A COLD

So,I'm back from Amsterdam now. It was a fun trip and a great city, but both me and J caught a cold there so now we're just staying in coughing and drinking tea.

I didn't really do that any shopping on my trip but I did buy one dress; it's huge and I love it. Makes me look a bit like something in between a boho-chick from the early seventies, an art school nerd and a character from moomin.

ROCKABILLY BOYS AND ROCKABILLY GIRLS

For those who don't know I'm quite into the fifties and rockabilly style. I've always thought "style before fashion" (it sounds sooo kliché I know :) and I greatly enjoy watching the creativity in the dressing of some strict style followers or people belonging to some certain underground styles.

I went to a gig on Thursday to see a cool band of rockabilly boys from the north, with the upright slapbass and ironwire guitar and all but the gig was kind of shit - too few people, the night never really got started. The next day I saw the same band plus a great local band at another venue and it was a rocking great night! And I have to add - stylish people; fifties girls and boys and some punks and oi-punks, rudeboys n'girls. When the rock club closed for the night we went for the clubs still open and ended up at a deep-house party. Quite the contrast :D

And then about the outfits: on Thursday I went out in my s&m china-insipired flower shirt and my favourite skirt, the denim skirt I've made. And I can't believe I can still wear my red peeptoes now in December! My thanks to the dry weather (and to thick stockings...).
On Friday I re-discovered my black wrap-around dress again, and I was happy for that; I hade totally forgotten about it. I figured out a way to hide the wrap-lace and thus higher the waistline of the dress a bit with my tacky-but-oh-so-lovely-cherry belt.

MOST WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

heart-shaped lock -necklace by my friend Johanna (once again..)

Most of my Wednesday night are spent in one of the many semi-shabby rock bars just around the corner (in my part of town there is plenty of them...). This is when the weekly music quiz is held. We always compete with the same team, even though our memebrs may vary a bit from night to night. Its really fun but the questions and the songs are quite difficult. We have some beer and a lots of cigarettes. Or the other way around. We don't suck but we're not that good either. Once we were last, we've never been first, but mostly we are among the better half of the teams. At least we are mentioned on the chart for this seasons' quizzes. Maybe not that bad considering we are partly competing against rock journalists, music nerds and just otherwise pro-knowitall-bar-hangarounds. Partly, that is.

And once I'm at it with the music I might as well mention this band and their website with dancing trees and bumping cars and lots of other stuff. Dance!

No actually, I'm just gonna go do some christmas shopping.

RUBY TUESDAY

Skirt in thin corduroy - made by me
Cardigan & beret - second hand
Shirt & bag - Indiska
Shoes - Attitude
Tights - H&M

I've been real cutlural and arty today. Earlier today I went to the Museum of Arts to see the basic exhibition of fine arts; the one that is constant. Before studying graphic design I studied painting for a year and then we went there all the time, but now I haven't been there for ages. It felt nice just to walk around and look at the pieces I've seen so many times before. Muesums are such nice buildings themselves, there is always an atmosphere of... I don't know how to put it, reverence and calm I guess, in them.

Now I'm on my way to see a play with my mother that I've been looking forward to. We always go to see plays by this theatre group, they're a bit close-to-the-edge-arty and experimental but most of the time it works. Exciting to see how it will be tonight then.

(and yes! Referring to yesterday, I am wearing flat shoes for once :)

BLUE MONDAY

Knitted dress - H&M
T-shirt - Diesel
Shoes - Vagabond
Legwarmers - old
pin - Ansa

For me, monday is like an extended sunday. I sort of start my week on Tuesdays, so today we slept late and took it easy. It's J's (my boyfriend's) last night home before he leaves for work again, so we did some stuff toghether; went swimming and cooked dinner. Toghether with our two cats we went to our friends' place to let meet their two cats to see if they all get along. Then our cats could stay there over new year's when J is back and we go to Amsterdam. (The cats didn't get along that well but they didn't fight either so we'll see what happens...)

And today I did my makeup like I haven't done for years (I'm so stuck to my black eyeliner) - with a blue pen and electric blue mascara on the lower lashes. Quite refreshing, and nice to do something "out of the usual". Hmm, once I'm at it I might aswell wear my flat shoes tomorrow.

(I'm not sure about legwarmers as an accessory btw. It looks nice sometimes and kind of I-just-came-from-dance-class casual, but sometime it's just so wrong. But today was really cold and wet so I guess it's ok)

PREPPY PREPPY

Shirt by RL, vest and skirt from H&M
earring by my friend Johanna (the one who also made the bows )

Yesterday was cute-and-preppy day. Got up early and went to the gym and then I did soem work in a clothing store I used to work at before, and where I still do some shifts about once or twice a month (so I can keep the personel-discount :)

In the evening I meet up with some old colleagues from the hard-working days for a little-christmas reunion. Those guys know how to party! I might have been more dressed for ska, but we went to an indie-electro night that this night played something more close good old 90's techno (and I got a lot of flashbacks from my late teen years, uh). And then we went all bananas.

DINNER AT A PLACE WITH COLOURFUL LIGHTS ON THE WALL

My friend and I were supposed to go out to this fancy sushi place to dine but it was fully booked, and so were all the other sushi places we tried. We ended up having something totally different but it was really nice anyway.

K. was wearing a nice patterned dress from Zara with super shiny Vagabond boots and I had one of the dresses I've made and a cardigan form Sisters that was once nice but now feels a bit worn out (so I regretted wearing it).

THE LUCKY DRESS

If I would have the need (-or the opportunity, depends on how you see it :) to get lucky, I would have to wear this dress. Every time I've had it something nice happens and I get approeached by a lot more people than normally when I go out, girls and guys alike. Or then I get to appear on lots of photos. It's a bit strange, but nice. I made this dress last year and I propably don't wear it often enough.

STRIPES AND THICK KNEESOCKS

The boyfriends clohtes are nice and cosy when its cold outside and when one has caught a bit of a cold. I gave him this light-knitted hoodide for his birthday and now I'm just borrowing it while he is away...

RAIN

At a day like this when the last thing one wants to do is leave the house I feel happy that atelast my feet were dry. It was all due to the boots. Worker boots. Most people get surprised when they hear that I have done a lot of heavy work, actually labour, in my life. Many are the days spent working outside for hours all year round, and one of the good things I have with from that job is a pair of good ol' worker boots (and we're talking the real shit here now, with steelcaps hard enought to wrestle elephants with without broken toes, a warm and furry lining to survuve an arctic cold and comfy enough to walk for days in). Not the kind of shoes me or anyone else would expect to see me wear (even thought one sees a lot of Dr.martens- style boots around otherwise) but oh, it feels amazing to have dry feet all day in spite of the weather. And it reminds me of my grunge years in the 90's... So I went kind of grunge all the way, from my regular working-at-home-leggings-and-t-shirt-and-a-big-cardigan I protected myself further from the wind with my boyfriends big sleevess hoodie under my jacket. Not that fancy, but comfy. And atleast right dressed for the weather for once! Or well, it would propably be better if I would actually wear jeans or pants instead of just leggings, I havent done that for months though. But thats another story.

(And later I learned what I propably shoul've learned by the time I was five: no boots in the world will keep you dry if you keep in walking through deep waterpools instead of just walking around them... but I couldn't help it, I just had to do it with my happy feet being dry and all and I wanted to see if the boots actually would stay dry forever - and now I have a cold).
